Kendra Coppey Fitzgerald

Kendra Fitzgerald is a Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist, Personal Trainer, and Yoga Teacher, teaching privately in New York City and Montclair, NJ. Her years of experience with and curiosity about the human body have informed Kendra’s method of training, which focuses on alignment, proper form and corrective exercise to help her clients live pain free.

Kendra is also the Founder & Director of Barefoot Tiger LLC, a world-class private fitness concierge company with locations in NYC & LA, launched in 2005.

Previously, Kendra spent several years in advertising and pharmaceuticals. It was there, burnt-out in corporate America, that she recognized a deep desire to inspire individuals to find their love of health. In 11 years her innovative techniques have led to a bi-coastal expansion of Barefoot Tiger. Today, Kendra’s team consists of 24 personal trainers, pilates instructors, and yoga teachers who together offer each client a highly personalized whole health and wellness “lifestyle” program.

Education has offered Kendra the platform for groundbreaking industry innovation, thus she credits her success to the mastery of her work and unparalleled attention to detail. A graduate of The BioMechanics Method, Institute for Integrative Nutrition, Yoga Works and certified by ACE, Kendra has completed extensive complimentary education in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology as well as corrective exercise, injury prevention and rehabilitation, sports coaching and pre- and post- natal training.

Kendra has been featured in Men’s Fitness, Shape, CNN, The Tampa Tribune, Curve, New York Daily News, AM New York, and TimeOut New York, and as a cover model on Yoga Zeit magazine. Kendra is most well known for melding her clinical expertise with creativity and a lighthearted perspective. What drives you every day?
Seeing the ripple effect of people getting themselves healthy is what gets me up every morning. It is such a joy to watch my clients discover things they never knew about themselves and then be so excited that they want to teach it to everyone they know. It’s infectious!

What traits in others are you attracted to?
Honesty, respect for others and their opinions, valuing personal connection and relationships, and a hunger for knowledge through education and experience.

Do you have any nicknames?
My niece calls me “Aunt Kenny.”

If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation, where would it be and who would it be with?
I would go to Hawaii with my husband Chris – it’s a sublime and magical place and I couldn’t imagine being there with anyone else!

What do you do in your free time?
I do yoga!! Seriously, I love to cook and eat healthy food (and yes, I do eat non-healthy food like vegan cupcakes), go running in Central Park, and now I am a proud mother of two boys, Liam and Aidan, so I am constantly chasing them around.

What is your ultimate wish?
To see the effect of health and happiness take hold into our future generations. We have the power to make it happen by working on ourselves first and helping others (and our children!) do the same.

What is your favorite saying?
“If you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”
~ Henry Ford

What is something people would probably like to know about you?
I spent a year studying in France and speak French fluently. Also, my parents own a winery in Alabama (of all places!).
